The Physical Education Department welcomes you to another exciting school year. At South Pasadena Middle School we believe that:
Physical Education is an integral part of education, contributing to the development of the individual student through planned movement and physical activity.
The school, home, and community play significant roles in a student’s life. In our integrated society, students develop skills needed for lifelong participation in physical activity.
Physical Education contributes to the development of the whole person through physical activity and related skills.
The goals of the physical education program include:
•
Physical activity: to offer and encourage continuous activity during the allotted periods of time
•
Physical fitness: to become as fit as possible and understand why
•
Movement skills and knowledge: to learn basic skills and to understand the fundamentals of these skills through practice
•
Social development and interaction: to learn to work individually and in groups
•
Self-image and personal development: to build self-esteem through physical activity and social interaction
•
Individual excellence: to encourage each student to strive to become the best she/he can through physical activities
•
Kinesiology/Physiology: to expand the student’s knowledge of the physical self through the study of the human body
WHAT IS THE PHYSICAL EDUATION UNIFORM?
South Pasadena students dress in the physical education uniform (gray t-shirt, black gym shorts, and laced athletic shoes) everyday for class. Wearing your uniform allows you to move freely and safely. Cleanliness is important and clothes MUST be taken home at the end of EACH WEEK to be wash. During cold weather, sweats may be worn for additional warmth

WHAT IF YOU’RE NOT FEELING WELL?
Your physical education teacher wants to be fair but we know laziness can be a habit. Parents’ notes are valid for 1 day. Please send a note with your child excusing them from participation for that day. Extended excuse will require a doctor’s note and must be cleared through the health office before school.
I have high expectations for your students in this class and I promise to do my personal best to enable each student to succeed. Students are encouraged to develop their self-advocacy skills. It is important for them to communicate effectively and make informed decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions and actions.
